Sunset Port of Dubuque Engagement Session | Katie & Brett

August 20, 2018

YOU KNOW HOW THE SAYING GOES, IN A WORLD FULL OF MARIOS, BE A LUIGI.

OK yeah, I made that up. How about this, “At a party full of Luigis, be the Luigi that she notices.” Katie & Brett met at a Halloween party where Brett was one of 11 Luigis in attendance. He had a hat that said, YOLO (you only Luigi once). Katie loved the hat, and immediately took notice. Their relationship grew from there!

THE PROPOSAL

They love to road trip together, and since Brett grew up in Wisconsin… **hey heyyyyy fellow proud cheese head for life!** They find themselves headed that way quite a bit. It was on a good old Iowa vacation in Okoboji, though, that Brett popped the question. Katie was so surprised and excited she thanked him. He had to remind her to actually say yes. ?

A PERFECT DUBUQUE “DATE NIGHT”

Katie & Brett will be tying the knot at The Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Katie wanted to be sure to incorporate plenty of their favorite places in Dubuque for their engagement photos. So scroll on down to get a peek at their downtown Dubuque engagement session! We stopped for a drink at Lot One, took a stroll around the Millwork District, and then headed to the Riverwalk in the Port of Dubuque to take in the sunset.

Be sure to take a break in-between photos to read how a mini fridge played into their love story, and the coincidence about the streets where they each grew up.

I knew I wanted to spend forever with my love when…

Katie: “He told me that he would get a mini fridge just to hold green olives (we both love them)!”

Brett: “I knew I wanted her to be a part of the rest of my life.”

I was SO excited to see that these two share my love for green olives! Such a good food and highly underrated. I’m going to drop a pro trip here, pepperoni & green olive pizza. Do it, you won’t regret it. My poor husband won’t eat it anymore because I burnt him out on it, but I call nonsense. It’s a great combo!

What is something you both have in common?

Katie: “We were both raised by amazing parents who taught us great values and to work hard at everything we do.”

Brett: “We both grew up on Grant Street…in completely different states.”

What is something that’s totally different about the two of you?

Katie: “The way we think!! Brett is very analytical and black & white, where I have a more creative and emotional thought process.”

Brett: “I’m into the outdoors and camping while Kate prefers hotels.”

What is a fun fact/something people might not guess about your fiancé?

Katie: “He loves to dance around the house!! He’s so cute and goofy and people would probably not guess that about him at all!”

Brett: “She’s a Star Wars nerd and knows more trivia about the movies than me.”
